Suffering and sorrow is our lot here upon this sinful earth. Far from abandoning us to our self-imposed misery, Our Lord enters into our sorrows in His Incarnation, and particularly in His Passion and Death, in order to redeem us by setting us free from our sins. His Mother joins Him in her role as co-redemptrix, sharing His and our suffering as the most tender of mothers. Let us join with Our Sorrowful Mother and St. Louis Marie de Montfort in meditating on the great love of Our Lord in the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary.
"Hail the Cross, our only Hope." This is the exclamation which rises in the hearts of Christians today, as we celebrate the blessed Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross.
"This is My blood of the covenant,
which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins." Matthew 26: 28 "Jesus knowing that His hour was come, that He should pass out of this world to the Father: having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them unto the end."
John 13: 1-2 Introit from Mass of the Feast of the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus "You shall draw waters with joy out of the Savior's fountain." Isaiah 12:3 This is beautiful scripture passage Pope Pius XII uses to open his encyclical on the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Haurietis Aquas (You shall draw waters) - the Latin title - was published on May 15, 1956 in honor of the 100th Anniversary of the establishment of the Feast of the Sacred Heart by Pope Pius IX. In this profound encyclical, the Holy Father Pius XII refutes various arguments against devotion to the Sacred Heart and explores both the Old and New Testament as grounds for this devotion. He also expounds upon what such a devotion means for our spiritual life, that devotion to the Heart of Jesus is to love the heart of God. May the Heart of Jesus, in the Most Blessed Sacrament,
be praised, adored, and loved with grateful affection, at every moment, in all the tabernacles of the world, even to the end of time. Amen. "Devotion to the Sacred Heart is our response to the love of God,
revealed in the human Heart of Our Lord Jesus Christ." "There is no surer means of attaining perfection than to be consecrated to the Heart of Jesus. If therefore, we wish to attain that perfection which the adorable Heart of Jesus desires of us, we must make an entire sacrifice of ourselves, and of everything that depends on us, to the Sacred Heart and live entirely for It." - St. Margaret Mary Alacoque As we leave the blessed month of Our Lady, we turn our attention to the June - the month of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. No one knew Our Lord more intimately than His Blessed Mother - every beat of His heart, what made Him ache, the causes of His joys and sorrows, and every tender feeling He experienced.
