At the beginning of the Christian life, the soul is cleansed through the saving waters of baptism and made a child of God, renouncing all that is not of God. Consecrated life is the deepest living out of the baptismal promises and the most perfect imitation of Christ's life. For this reason the Church puts forward the renewal of one's baptismal promises as the central component of the private ceremony for the reception of postulants into any community.
After renewing their Baptismal promises, the Church calls the candidates forward to state their willingness to be instructed in the way of life of the particular community.
"Let her come forward who wishes to be admitted as Postulant..."
"Take this holy medal, wear it with faith, and handle it with due devotion, so that the holy and immaculate Queen of Heaven may protect and defend you..."
As a community with a deep Marian devotion, every Sister wears the medal of the Immaculate Conception, the Miraculous Medal, over her heart to remind her of her total consecration to Jesus through Mary. This privilege is extended to the new postulant when they are invested in the medal.
