Calicem Salutaris Accipiam!

"I will take up the chalice of salvation, and I will call upon the name of the Lord!"

In honor of his twenty-five years of holy priesthood, through the loving generosity of countless friends, our Chaplain was able to select an exquisitely hand-crafted silver and gold chalice on his last trip to Italy. 

On the feast of Saints Joachim and Anne, the chalice was consecrated and, for the first time, fulfilled the purpose for which it was so carefully crafted. The chalice's purpose is to form a suitable resting place for the Most Precious Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ, poured out for our redemption. Its beauty is expressive of our faith in the Real Presence. From this time forward, it will be used only to give glory to God in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, and will be handled and cared for with the reverence that reflects its dignity.

Unlike the Extraordinary Form where the consecration of a chalice and paten are reserved for the Bishop, in the Ordinary Form the priest himself has the ability to consecrate his chalice. The chalice was brought forward at the Offertory; Father prayed the prayer of consecration and incensed the chalice while the scola chanted, "Credidi propter quod locutus sum: ego autem humiliatus sum nimis...Quid retribuam Domino, pro omnibus, quua retribuit mihi? Calicem salutaris accipiam: et nomen Domini invocabo..." (Ps 116). The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass proceeded, as the Sisters with grateful hearts adored our Spouse in His sacramental Presence, thanking Him for His self-gift, for the gift of our Chaplain, for those who enabled him to have this gift, and for those who made this chalice for God's glory and the salvation of souls.
