“Apostolic action will proceed from our intimate union with God… We ask Our Lady to share with us the love which enables us to offer our lives every day for Christ and to cooperate with Him in the Salvation of the World” (MSSR Constitutions). One of the common questions we get from new acquaintances is: “But what do you do?” And it’s a good question. What do Sisters do all day? We do many of the same things that anyone else would do. We answer the phone, send emails, teach classes, correct exams, attend meetings, give out Band-Aids, make dinner, commute, and do laundry. But, everything we do, we do as Sisters. We are consecrated women, that is, women whom God has dedicated as particularly His own, and this dedication is not only for ourselves but for the good of the whole world. One of the documents of the Church on Religious Life states, “The choice of a person by God is for the sake of others: the consecrated person is one who is sent to do the work of God in the power of God” (Essential Elements, 23). Like Christ, we are consecrated and sent into the world for its salvation. Our mission, therefore, is His and the works that we take on must be in keeping with our particular charism, the gift that the Holy Spirit has inspired in our Community for the Church. For us, this means our works should communicate the beauty, goodness, and truth of the Catholic faith. Daily, in whatever apostolic work we find ourselves, we strive to love as Christ loved and to be Mary’s hands and heart in the world. Apostolate SlideshowComments are closed.
