If friends are those with whom you spend many pleasant hours, books are some of a Sister’s closest friends - she certainly spends a great deal of time in their company!
"God forbid that I should glory, except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ: by whom the world is crucified to me, and I to the world." - Galatians 6:14
These words of St. Paul are the words we heard in the Introit of the Mass on September 14 for the Exultation of the Holy Cross, and also today for the Commemoration of the Imprinting of the Holy Stigmata on the Body of St. Francis. The saying, "When life hands you lemons, make lemonade!" is much more applicable in the convent than one might think.
"O God, at Whose passion, according to the prophecy of Simeon, a sword of sorrow pierced the most sweet soul of the glorious Virgin and Mother Mary: mercifully grant that we who with devotion honor her sorrows, may obtain the happy fruit of Thy passion: Who livest and reignst, world without end. Amen.
