The Resurrection of Our Lord We offer Thee, O Lord Jesus, this decade in honor of Thy glorious Resurrection; and we ask of Thee, through this mystery, and through the intercession of Thy holy Mother, love of God and fervor in Thy service. - St. Louis Marie de Montfort “But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they went to the tomb, taking the spices which they had prepared. And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they went in they did not find the body” (Luke 24:1-2). “The doors were shut, but Jesus came and stood among them, and said, ‘peace be with you’” (John 20:26). When Jesus rose from the dead, He gave us the greatest gift we could hope for - our salvation; the gift He had promised our first parents and fulfilled on this night over 2,000 years ago. As Our Lord's love for us is infinite, He not only gave us the gift of salvation but He also encountered and consoled His beloved disciples in His glorified body. From comforting the women on the road after they found the empty tomb to His compassionate dialogue with Thomas after his doubting, Jesus knows the value of these personal interactions to aid the disciples in opening their hearts to the truth. Our Lord continues to reach out to each of us to strengthen and encourage our faith, especially in our encounters with Him in the Holy Eucharist. The Ascension We offer Thee, O Lord Jesus, this decade in honor of Thy triumphant Ascension into Heaven; and we ask of Thee, through this mystery, and through the intercession of Thy holy Mother, an ardent desire for Heaven, our true home. - St. Louis Marie de Montfort “Then He led them out as far as Bethany, and lifting up His hands He blessed them. While He blessed them, He parted from them, and was carried up into heaven"…”and sat down at the right hand of God” (Lk 24:50-51, Mk 16:19). In His earthly ministry, Jesus loved His disciples “to the end” as we see in His passion and death on the cross. We see it also in the tender parting moment between Jesus and His disciples as He blesses them before ascending into heaven. When He entered body, blood, soul, and divinity into Heaven, He raised our own human nature to sit at the right hand of the Father. O wondrous honor! Not only did God deign to descend to earth and take on our flesh but He has given our human nature this even greater dignity and blessed us beyond measure. The Descent of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost We offer Thee, O Lord Jesus, this decade in honor of the mystery of Pentecost; and we ask of Thee, through this mystery, and through the intercession of Thy holy Mother, the coming of the Holy Spirit into our souls. - St. Louis Marie de Montfort “And there appeared to them tongues as of fire, distributed and resting on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance” (Acts 2:3-4). The disciples gathered in the upper room to pray and wait for the Advocate whom Jesus would send. This interior posture of prayer was an openness and docility to God’s will for them and the Church; an eager anticipation of what He would ask of them and what He would give them as the means to follow His will. When the Holy Spirit came, He found their hearts ready to receive Him and their minds and bodies ready to act according to His will! This readiness is what allowed the Holy Spirit to speak in them and to bear witness to His glory. God asks us daily to ready our hearts and minds to follow His will but we must pray for the grace to receive the Holy Spirit well and for the grace to “do whatever He tells us,” just as Our Lady and the Apostles prayed and waited for Him in the upper room. The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary We offer Thee, O Lord Jesus, this decade in honor of Thy Holy Mother’s Assumption; and we ask of Thee, through this mystery, and through her intercession, a tender devotion for so good a Mother. Amen. - St. Louis Marie de Montfort “If, then, we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him. We know that Christ, raised from the dead, dies no more; death no longer has power over him… For if we have grown into union with him through a death like his, we shall also be united with him in the resurrection” (Romans 6:8-9:5). The Church doesn’t give a final pronouncement on what exactly happened to Mary before her Assumption body and soul into heaven. We are free to believe that she died peacefully or transitioned to eternal life without death. No matter what view we hold about her last moments, we can recognize that through her profound union with His Sacrifice, Mary died with Christ spiritually on Calvary. As prophesied by Simeon, Mary’s soul was pierced by a sword of sorrow as she watched her Son – her baby – die a horrific death. Yet, as she was intimately united with her Son in suffering, so too is she intimately united with Him in glory. Jesus refuses to allow corruption to touch His Mother’s perfect body, and she is assumed into heaven, foreshadowing the incomprehensible glory to which each of us is called: “we shall also be united with him in the resurrection.” The Coronation of the Blessed Virgin Mary We offer Thee, O Lord Jesus, this decade in honor of Thy Holy Mother’s coronation; and we ask of Thee, through this mystery, and through her intercession, perseverance in grace and a crown of glory hereafter. Amen. - St. Louis Marie de Montfort “A great sign appeared in the sky, a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars” (Revelation 12:1). Mary, the humble handmaid of the Lord, in her perfect surrender to the loving will of God, is now the greatest of all God’s creatures. She is clothed with the sun, stands on the moon, and is crowned with stars. How exceedingly, astonishingly, excessively does God reward those who trust in Him! We can learn from Mary to offer perfect praise to so gracious a Father: “My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my savior…The Mighty One has done great things for me, and holy is his name” (Lk 1:46-47;49).
