St. Louis Marie de Montfort

As Marian Sisters, we are greatly devoted to the Blessed Mother but we also take as our patron a man who made an immense impact in spreading devotion to Our Lady, St. Louis Marie de Montfort.

Today is the feast of St. Louis de Montfort who lived in France from 1673 to 1716. He is most well known for his work True Devotion to Mary  and his efforts to spread consecration to Jesus through Mary. In imitation of this great patron, each Sister consecrates herself to Jesus through Mary using his method and strives to live it out in her daily life. While we renew this consecration each day, one of our best-loved customs is the communal renewal we make together every Saturday before the evening meal.

St. Louis Marie de Montfort wrote many other works including one particularly fitting for this Paschal season, his letter to the Friends of the Cross. This letter, written to a group of laity, reveals his great love for the Cross of Christ and also masterfully portrays the indispensable link between the Cross and the glory of the Resurrection, not only for Our Lord but also for each of us who are called to follow Him. 

​"Indeed, is it not the Cross which has given to Jesus Christ 'the name which is above all other names, so that all beings in the heavens, on earth and in the underworld should bend the knee at the name of Jesus?' The glory of one who knows how to suffer is so great that heaven, angels and men, and even God himself, gaze on him with joy as a most glorious sight. And if the saints in heaven desired anything, it would be to return to earth so as to bear some crosses" -Friends of the Cross.

On this feast of a man who had a tremendous love for our Blessed Mother and the Cross of Jesus, let us ask for a share in his great love so that we may also come to the glory of Heaven through the intercession of our Mother and Queen.
