Beauty in the North

In June, many of our Sisters traveled up the coast and served in camps for the young people of Ft. Bragg and Crescent City. 

During these trips to the northern reaches of our diocese, the wild majesty of the Redwoods and the rocky coast was stunning. One could hardly help but stand awestruck at the evidence of God's bountiful goodness and love. But there was a greater beauty the Sisters encountered. Although hidden, it had such a brilliance that nature paled in comparison. This is the pinnacle of God's creation, most precious to Him and bought with a great price: the human soul.

All the children received the Miraculous Medal on the Feast of the Sacred Heart

 In Sigrid Undset's Catherine of Siena, she describes how St. Catherine was given the grace to see the brilliant splendor of a soul that she had prayed for. The Saint was overcome by its beauty which she declared was beyond description and so asked Jesus for the grace to see the beauty of the souls she lived with.

While we may not have the mystical experiences of St. Catherine, it was so encouraging to encounter God's beloved children; from the innocent delight of the four year old and the growing responsibility of the 8th grader to the selfless charity and faith of the adults.
​The Sisters taught about virtues, saints, the life of Christ, as well as led music, crafts and played games with the children. But most of all, they witnessed. They witnessed to the joy that only Christ can give and the all-sufficient love that He has for each of His children. 

Honoring Our Lady

We regularly offer prayers for all those in our diocese, but it was a special gift to be given a brief glimpse of the beautiful souls hidden like gems amid the wild splendor of the northern part of our diocese.
