A Month in Review

We have only completed two months of 2025, but Our Lord has already blessed us with many adventures. In January, two of our Sisters traveled to the Immaculata Conference in Texas to support this admirable event. On this grace-filled trip, they gave presentations on Our Lady and vocations and were edified by the deep  love for our Our Lady and devotion to her rosary exhibited by the participants.

Four of our Sisters were thrilled to attend the Institute on Religious Life regional meeting in Los Angeles. It was an uplifting trip for the Sisters who enjoyed spending time with other Religious and listening to excellent presentations on the theme: "Forming a Eucharistic Heart".

The Sisters in the schools were very busy for Catholic Schools Week! The Bishop visited the elementary school classrooms, which always puts the students on their best behavior. A highlight was the Catholic Schools Week Mass at the Cathedral with Sister's choir of students giving praise to God through liturgical music.

We are immensely grateful for a successful and beautiful Evening with the Sisters on February 8th. It was a special joy to see and visit so many of our friends together in one place! The Evening was filled with conversation, laughter, music, good food, and excellent company. Thank you all who made this lovely event possible!​

Six of our Sisters took a trip up to Ferndale and sang for the funeral of a beloved friend and long-time benefactor of the Community. She hosted us on our first visits to the northern part of our diocese ten years ago, and supported and encouraged us through the years. It was a privilege and joy to be present with her family to pray for the repose of her soul and offer thanksgiving for the gift of such a beautiful life.

Our Rosa Mystica Sodality had a number of girls make their Marian Consecration. As part of the ceremony, the young ladies receive a blessed garment. For this Sodality, it is a charming scarf which each Sodalist embroiders with the emblem of the Sodality.

In the midst of the action and excitement of the month, the Sisters were able to take some much needed rest in the Lord. The whole Community took a day of retreat and recollection on President's day and a couple of the Sisters were able to go on a week-long retreat. These days of retreat and prayer are so essential for us as religious. We can only give what we have received from the Lord and the more we receive, the more we can give. Prayer is truly the life-blood of religious, we literally couldn't and wouldn't exist without it! 

The school month ended with a flourish with one of the elementary classes presenting a Saint Wax Museum. The novices delighted in visiting "the Museum" and hearing the students present on their saints. 

Prayer, especially the prayer of the Church, is at the heart of our life, so we are very grateful to the Cathedral choir for welcoming Dr. Jennifer Donelson-Nowicka to give the Sisters and the choir ongoing formation in music, particularly chant. We enjoyed learning techniques which will help us to praise the Lord more freely.
