Transfiguration by Raphael During our initial years of formation in religious life, each of us Sisters reads and studies Vita Consecrata or The Consecrated Life. This apostolic exhortation of Pope St. John Paul II begins with a beautiful reflection on the mystery of the Transfiguration. It is a Feast in which the humanity and divinity of Jesus Christ shine forth, leading us to meditate upon the mysteries of the Incarnation and the communion of persons that is the Most Holy Trinity.
On July 31, we celebrate the memorial of St. Ignatius of Loyola, soldier turned convert, priest, theologian, founder of the Jesuit order, and great influence in the Church and religious life.
As Marian Sisters, we are greatly devoted to the Blessed Mother but we also take as our patron a man who made an immense impact in spreading devotion to Our Lady, St. Louis Marie de Montfort.
September 15th is the feast of Our Lady of Sorrows. This title of Our Lady highlights the presence suffering and sorrow had in her life. She who never committed a sin and upon whom God bestowed the ultimate privilege of being His Mother still shared our common human experience of pain. She is not an icy and untouchable queen, distant and unreachable, but a warm and tender mother, one whose love for each of us individually has been tried and proven.
