Meditation for the Third Day: On the Gift of Piety
The gift of Piety begets in our hearts a filial affection for God as our most loving Father. It inspires us to love and respect for His sake, persons and things consecrated to Him, as well as those who are vested with His authority, His Blessed Mother and the saints, the Church and its visible Head, our parents and superiors, our country and its rulers. He who is filled with the gift of Piety finds the practice of his religion not a burdensome duty, but a delightful service. Where there is love, there is no labor. Meditation for the Second Day: On the Gift of Fear
The Gift of Fear fills us with a sovereign respect for God, and makes us dread nothing so much as to offend Him by sin. It is a fear that arises, not from the thought of Hell, but from the sentiments of reverence and filial submission to our Heavenly Father. It is fear that is the beginning of true wisdom, detaching us from the worldly pleasures that could in any way separate us from God. "They that fear the Lord will prepare their hearts, and in His sight will sanctify their souls." “All these devoted themselves with one accord to prayer, together with some women, and Mary the mother of Jesus… (Acts 1:14). Mary was the center of unity that held the young Church together in its
expectation of the Holy Spirit (EE 53). In company with Mary, Mother of the Church, who presided over the gathering of the apostolic college and nurtured the infant Church from its beginnings, we annually pray the Pentecost novena.” MSSR Constitutions Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament The month of May is here: the month of Mother’s Day, the month of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and for this year of 2024 the month of the Solemnity of Corpus Christi. What powerful and beautiful themes our Lord has given us in this present time!
O my beloved St. Joseph,
adopt me as thy child. Take charge of my salvation; watch over me day and night; preserve me from occasions of sin; obtain for me purity of body. Through thy intercession with Jesus, grant me a spirit of sacrifice, humility, self-denial, a burning love for Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, and a sweet and tender love for Mary, my Mother. St. Joseph, be with me living, be with me dying, and obtain for me a favorable judgment. Amen. |
