The Lamb that was slain is worthy to receive power and divinity and wisdom and strength and honor; to Him be glory and empire for ever and ever. - Introit: Solemnity of Christ the King "It has long been a common custom to give to Christ the metaphorical title of "King," because of the high degree of perfection whereby He excels all creatures. So He is said to reign "in the hearts of men," both by reason of the keenness of His intellect and the extent of His knowledge, and also because He is very truth, and it is from Him that truth must be obediently received by all mankind. He reigns, too, in the wills of men, for in Him the human will was perfectly and entirely obedient to the Holy Will of God, and further by His grace and inspiration He so subjects our free-will as to incite us to the most noble endeavors."
How radiant is that precious cross which brought us our salvation. In the cross we are victorious, through the cross we shall reign, by the cross all evil is destroyed. - Antiphon 3, Lauds: Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross "O Cross, more refulgent than all the stars, honored throughout the world, deeply loved by men, holiest of all things: You alone were worthy to bear the price of world's ransom. O sweet wood, o sweet nails, that held so sweet a burden: save this flock gathered today to sign your praises."
"Thou has redeemed us, O Lord, in Thy blood, out of every tribe and tongue, and people, and nation, and hast made us to our God a kingdom.
- Psalm 88:2 | Introit for the Mass of the Precious Blood of Jesus "Remaining little before God ... is to recognize our nothingness,
to expect everything from God, as a little child expects everything from his or her father." "It is so sweet to call God our Father!" - St. Therese of Lisieux "O Sacred Heart of Jesus, fountain of eternal life,
Your Heart is a glowing furnace of Love. You are my refuge and my sanctuary. O my adorable and loving Savior, consume my heart with the burning fire with which Yours is aflamed. Pour down on my soul those graces which flow from Your love. Let my heart be united with Yours. Let my will be conformed to Yours in all things. May Your Will be the rule of all my desires and actions. Amen." - St. Gertrude the Great Ubi caritas et amor Deus ibi est Where charity and love are, there is God The Lord again presents us today with a timing that causes contemplation. Today being both Holy Thursday and April 1, the month whose devotion is dedicated to the Most Holy Eucharist. The True Presence of Christ in the Most Holy Eucharist is a devotion which swells in our hearts today as we celebrate both the Institution of the Eucharist and the conferral of the Holy Priesthood.
A 12th century hymn attributed to St. Bernard of Clairvaux, Jesu Dulcis Memoria extols the Most Holy Name of Jesus. It's text has inspired centuries of composers, from Palestrina, to Victoria, even until today.
In an effort to "close out" the month of the Holy Name - or rather give it back to heaven - the text of this beloved hymn is below, as well as links to a few more well-known renditions. “The name of Jesus, is in fact, the great foundation of the faith
that turns people into children of God." - St. Bernardine of Siena "At the name of Jesus let every knee bow of those that are in heaven,
on earth and under the earth; and let every tongue confess that the Lord Jesus Christ is in the glory of God the Father." Philippians 2: 10 - 11 |
